5-week Transition to Teams & SharePoint Training Toolkit

Project Overview – Out with the Old, In with New ways of working

Role: Lead Instructional Designer, SME, Trainer, Project Manager, Multimedia Developer, and Technical Consultant
(Timeline: 6 weeks | Tools: Rise, Office 365, Canva, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite)

For years, OneAmerica Financial teams relied on a legacy network drive for file storage and collaboration, an outdated system plagued by slow connections, version conflicts, and poor backup practices. Recognizing the inefficiency and risk, I championed the transition to Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, demonstrating how a modern, cloud-based collaboration model could save time, improve communication, and enhance productivity across the enterprise.

After gaining leadership buy-in, I led the full migration and developed a five-week blended learning program built in Articulate Rise, guiding associates through hands-on activities, practice exercises, and live office-hour sessions. The training emphasized not just tools, but habits, teaching people how to manage projects, share files, and communicate seamlessly in the new environment.

Within five weeks, my Workforce Learning team was fully operating on Teams, followed shortly by Talent Management and eventually the entire organization. What began as a grassroots effort became a company-wide digital transformation, eliminating dependency on the old network drive and redefining how teams at OneAmerica collaborate every day.

The Results

Strong stakeholder enthusiasm, rapid adoption, and measurable productivity gains confirmed the program’s impact, proof that thoughtful design and hands-on learning can drive real digital transformation. By transitioning to Teams and SharePoint, departments across OneAmerica Financial saved an estimated 20–30% of their time, unlocking faster collaboration, stronger cross-departmental alignment, and a more reliable infrastructure for everyday work.

Project Highlights

Key Takeaways
Empowering Collaboration Through Digital Transformation

Impact:
The Transitioning to Teams initiative transformed how associates at OneAmerica Financial work, communicate, and collaborate. What began as a departmental upgrade grew into an enterprise-wide shift that improved efficiency, reduced technical friction, and saved teams an estimated 20–30% of their time—proof that strategic design and clear communication can make technology adoption feel empowering, not overwhelming.

Lessons Learned:
Leading a major workflow transformation required equal parts technical expertise and empathy. I learned that successful change management depends on pacing, visibility, and humor—keeping training practical, human, and engaging while guiding people through discomfort into mastery.

Strengths Demonstrated:
This project highlights my ability to blend technical consulting, instructional design, and creative communication into a cohesive experience. It showcases strengths in systems thinking, multimedia development, and organizational change strategy, along with a deep understanding of how to drive behavior adoption at scale.

Reflection:
What started as a push to modernize file storage evolved into a blueprint for how learning can accelerate digital transformation. It reinforced my belief that when people understand the why behind change—and are supported through the how—they don’t just adapt… they lead the way forward.
